Happy New Year! For the last two months I’ve been based in the amazing City of Liverpool! This has been the longest time I’ve spent away from London in 22 years!
I’ve been working with my friends, the incredible physical comedy theatre company Spymonkey, co-writing the score and playing music for our rather unique version of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ at the beautiful Liverpool Playhouse. If you’ve never seen Spymonkey, I recommend checking them out! Think Marx Brothers / Laurel & Hardy, Family guy(?)! For me it’s been a brilliantly fulfilling artistic experience and I’m pleased that the packed houses and the press seem to have enjoyed it too!
It’s been a pleasure to work with fellow musicians Ross Hughes and David Insua-Cau, tv’s Mathew Crosby who helped write the script and my old friend, director and co-writer Ed Gaughan.
My trio, Aurelius released our album back in September. Thanks to everyone who have given it a spin. We’re looking forward to playing this music lots more in 2019.
I feel honoured that one of my favourite musicians in the world, Larry Grenadier (bassist with Brad Mehldau Trio, Pat Metheney, Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, etc etc) found time to listen to it and said this. :-
For the last couple of months I’ve been thrilled to be involved in this great piece of original theatre / music with some good friends. It’s currently running at Soho Theatre in London. Have a watch of the trailer below.
Our friend, comedian Stewart Lee had this to say about it:
“A musical detective story, part comedy thriller, part concert experience, performed by a multi-tasking cast of impossible talent” – Stewart Lee
